About Alicia:
Alicia Urbain is a dedicated Brighton resident, having called our community her home for over two decades. As a seasoned attorney specializing in education policy, Alicia brings a wealth of experience. Her extensive background working across various levels of state, federal, and local government will bring an abundance of knowledge to our work as a school board. Her commitment to public service is matched by her dedication to her family. Alicia is a proud mom of three, with her youngest currently attending Brighton schools.
Alicia's passion for her community is evident through her involvement in education initiatives, community events and local sports. She worked in education first as an adjunct professor at Mid-Michigan Community College and Central Michigan University. The last 13 years she has worked in education policy in Lansing. She has also been a consistent face on the softball fields of Brighton, coaching with a blend of expertise and enthusiasm that has left a lasting impact on the student-athletes. Her leadership extends beyond the field as the Youth Travel Softball Director, where she continues to build the softball program and works to develop the student-athletes. Alicia recognizes that learning extends beyond the classroom walls for our students, and she is honored to play a part in creating opportunities for students of all ages.
Alicia’s passion for ensuring a safe and supportive environment for education has led to her to being a part of the Brighton Area Schools safety committee since 2014. She is currently an appointee on the Michigan School Safety Commission. Furthermore, Alicia serves as the Chair of the City of Brighton Zoning Board of Appeals, demonstrating her unwavering dedication to her community's development and well-being. A consistent theme in Alicia’s work in our community is making it a better place to live, work and raise children.
An alumnus of both the University of Michigan and Michigan State University, Alicia, however, harbors a deep-seated love for her Wolverines, cheering them on as an avid fan. Away from her professional and volunteer endeavors, she is an unapologetic Disney World fanatic, embracing the magic and wonder that come with each visit to the most magical place on Earth.
She brings perspective from many angles. She is a mom, a coach, a public official, a legal & education professional, and former educator. Alicia embodies the spirit of community engagement, professional dedication, and personal passion, making her a respected figure in Brighton and beyond.

"Alicia Urbain is an unwavering supporter of academics and athletics in Brighton Schools! Her background in fighting for better education for children makes her a uniquely qualified choice for Brighton’s Board of Education. Alicia will build bridges, keeps an open mind, and conducts herself in a civilized manner. I have sat and discussed several important issues with Alicia and her fellow candidate Katie Tierney recently and walked away impressed with both candidates. I am proud to endorse Alicia Urbain and Katie Tierney for Brighton Board of Education."

"While Alicia and I have disagreed on a variety of issues, one thing we’ve always agreed on, is to put kids front and center. Alicia and I have always had honest conversations, and in several instances, found areas of compromise. I have no doubt that if elected to the school board, she would work with anyone, no matter their political affiliation, to do what she believes is in the best interests of kids."

I’ve known Alicia since our oldest children were in kindergarten together and now they are both in their 3rd year at U of M! Alicia has been an advocate for children & families through her career, and her various leadership and volunteer roles, which include her children’s sports/activities. She always steps up and is a person of action who is very level headed, approachable, kind, and a problem solver. It has always been evident that Alicia cares for this community and our schools.

"Alica Urbain is the “best of the best” when it comes to understanding how Michigan’s education laws and policies impact schools, students, families, school leaders and teachers. She looks at each issue with a focus on whether it best meets the needs of students, and if not, how it can be approved to do so. Alicia understands that the details matter. All too often these days, legislative decisions are being made in a manner that don’t reflect the needs of students. Alicia knows this is wrong. The focus needs to start with students and families."
Lisa Jesme
"I have known Alicia since 2014 and she has put the students best interest at the forefront. Our daughters grew up together and she has always been an advocate for students and has always been strong voice for them. I believe in her and know she will be a great additional to our school board."
Chris Weaver
"I’ve had the privilege of working with Alicia over the years. She always has the interest of our kids first."
